Terms of use
This page sets out the terms on which you use Soweto Follow, including the risk warning that belongs with gold CFDs.
Educational material, not advice
Everything on Soweto Follow is educational material. It is not advice, not a recommendation and not an offer to buy or sell any instrument, and it is not a personal recommendation to you.
We do not know your circumstances, your income, your existing positions or what you can afford to lose, so nothing here is tailored to you. If you need personal advice, speak to a licensed adviser.
Which Law Applies to These Terms
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa, and any dispute arising from your use of the site falls under South African jurisdiction. That is the practical position for a site written for a South African readership, dealing in rand amounts and local funding methods, and referring readers to the FSCA as the familiar regulator. Reading the site from another country does not move the legal seat: the terms, and any argument about them, are interpreted under South African law and heard in South African forums.
The regulatory position is not uniform, and that matters more than the governing-law clause. FxPro is licensed by the FCA in the UK and by CySEC, and an FxPro entity holds an FSCA licence in South Africa, but the entity that serves South Africa is FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL. Check which entity your own account is opened with, because the licence, the protections and the complaints route follow that entity, not the brand name on the website. Do not assume the FCA or FSCA badge covers an account held elsewhere.
Nothing on this site is a solicitation to trade in a jurisdiction where doing so would be unlawful, and nothing here overrides the law that applies where you live. If local rules restrict leveraged gold trading, retail leverage caps or the marketing of such products to you, those rules take priority over anything published here. You are responsible for knowing what is permitted in your own country before you open an account or send funds, and for complying with your own tax obligations on any trading gains or losses.
The Affiliate Relationship, Stated in Full
Soweto Follow earns money through affiliate links, which means it may be paid a commission when a reader clicks through to a broker and later opens or funds an account. The broker named on this site is FxPro. The payment comes from the broker's marketing budget, not from your deposit, and it does not change the price you pay or the spreads on your account. This is the full disclosure: the commercial relationship exists, it is the site's revenue model, and you are entitled to know it before you click anything.
The affiliate arrangement does not buy influence over what the pages say. Content is written to explain costs, margin, leverage caps and risk honestly, including the parts that make trading less attractive. No broker reviews a page before publication, and no broker approves the wording. Where a fact is unknown, such as the exact spread on your account or the minimum deposit for your entity, the page says it depends on the broker and your account type rather than filling the gap with a flattering number.
You are never obliged to use a link on this site. Opening an account directly with FxPro, or choosing a different broker entirely, costs you nothing here and changes nothing about what you can read. If you do use a link, assume Soweto Follow benefits financially, and weigh the content knowing that. The correct test is whether the explanation of lots, pips, margin and leverage stands up on its own arithmetic, not whether the site profits when you sign up.
The risk you are taking
CFDs on gold carry a high risk of loss and most retail accounts lose money. Leverage, which is capped at up to 1:200 for retail and up to 1:500 for eligible or professional clients depending on the instrument, magnifies both gains and losses.
That cap is not a target. At 1:200 a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin, and on gold one standard lot is 100 oz with one pip equal to 0.01. Trade only with money whose loss you could absorb.
What Soweto Follow Provides and What It Does Not
Soweto Follow is an information and education site about trading gold (XAU/USD), not a financial services provider. Everything published here explains how the instrument works, how lots, pips and margin are calculated, and how a broker account is structured. It is written for readers in South Africa who want to understand the mechanics before they commit any rand. It is not advice, it is not a recommendation to buy or sell, and it is not a personal suitability assessment. Nothing here knows your income, your debts or your goals.
Soweto Follow does not open accounts, hold client money, execute orders or manage positions for anyone. It has no custody of funds and cannot place a trade on your behalf. If you fund an account, that money sits with the broker you chose, under that broker's terms and that broker's regulator, not with this site. Practical questions about deposits, withdrawals, verification documents and platform access belong with the broker's support desk, because only the broker can see and act on your account records.
Soweto Follow does not tell you which direction gold will move, what position size suits you, or when to enter and exit. Prices of XAU/USD move on factors no site can predict, and a 1 standard lot position of 100 oz carries exposure that dwarfs a typical retail balance. Treat every worked example here, including the 0.10-lot margin figure of about $85.50, as arithmetic that shows how the calculation works, not as a suggested trade size. Decisions and their consequences remain yours.
How Updates to These Terms Are Published
Changes to these terms are published on this page, and the current version is the one live on the site at the moment you read it. There is no separate notification list and no email you must opt into to stay bound. When wording on disclosure, liability, the affiliate relationship or governing law is revised, the revised text replaces the old text here. Continuing to use the site after a change is published means you accept the version then in force, so check this page when a decision depends on it.
The reason for publishing changes in place is that terms must match the content they describe. If the affiliate arrangement changes, or the broker entity serving South Africa changes, or the leverage cap available to retail clients shifts, the relevant statement on this page is corrected rather than left standing next to outdated pages. Corrections to factual errors are made the same way and as soon as they are identified, because a wrong figure about margin or leverage is worse than no figure at all.
No date-stamped revision history is maintained on this page, and no advance notice period is promised before a change takes effect. Treat any figure you rely on as current only for the visit on which you read it, and confirm anything that carries money risk against the broker's own documentation. If a change to these terms is material to a decision you are about to make, the safe course is to re-read this page first and to treat the broker's contract specifications as the authoritative source.
Your Responsibilities When Using This Site and Its Links
You are responsible for verifying every figure before you trade on it, because this site explains mechanics rather than reporting live market data. The reference price of about 4275.0 for XAU/USD, the pip value of 0.01 and the margin example of roughly $85.50 on a 0.10-lot position all illustrate how the arithmetic works. Your broker's platform supplies the actual price, the actual margin requirement and the actual contract specification for your account. Where this site and the platform disagree, the platform governs and you should act on it.
You are responsible for confirming which entity holds your account and what that entity's terms say. The brand name does not tell you this. FxPro is licensed by the FCA and CySEC, and an FxPro entity holds an FSCA licence in South Africa, yet the entity serving South Africa is FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL. Read the client agreement you are actually asked to accept, check the regulator named in it, and confirm how client money is held and how complaints are escalated before you deposit any rand.
You are responsible for your own risk controls, and no page here can set them for you. Leverage of up to 1:200 for retail clients, and up to 1:500 for eligible or professional clients depending on the instrument, is a cap on what the broker permits, not a target to use. Sizing, stop placement and how much of your capital sits in one XAU/USD position are choices only you can make. If you cannot state your maximum acceptable loss in rand before you enter, the position is too large.
The Affiliate Relationship: How Soweto Follow Earns From Broker Links
Soweto Follow earns money when you click a link to a broker such as FxPro and open a funded trading account. The broker pays the site a commission, usually a share of the spread or a fixed fee per lot. This payment does not increase the cost you pay to the broker; it comes out of the broker's revenue. The site does not charge you for reading its content. You should assume that every broker link on the site is an affiliate link, because that is how the site is funded.
The commission creates an incentive for the site to recommend brokers, so treat all broker mentions with that in mind. Soweto Follow aims to describe what a broker offers, including its platforms MT4, MT5, cTrader and FxPro Edge, and the entity that serves South Africa, FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL. It does not rank brokers by how much they pay. If you prefer, you can open an account directly with a broker without using a link from this site, and you will not pay more or less.
You are never obliged to use an affiliate link. The site's educational material is available without opening an account. If you do use a link, check the broker's own terms, including the regulator caveat: FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC, and an FxPro entity holds an FSCA licence in South Africa, but you must check which entity your own account is opened with. The affiliate relationship does not make Soweto Follow responsible for the broker's conduct or for any loss you suffer.
Dated figures and affiliate links
Figures on this site are dated and must be verified with the broker before you rely on them. Costs, leverage and funding terms change, and a number that was right when we read it may not be right today.
Some links to brokers are affiliate links, which means we may be paid a referral fee. Your relationship is with the broker, not with us: the account, the contract and any dispute are between you and the entity named on your own account documents.
What Soweto Follow Provides: Information on Gold Trading, Not Personal Financial Advice
Soweto Follow provides general information about trading gold (XAU/USD) and the mechanics of costs, margin and risk. It is not financial advice and does not take your circumstances into account. Every figure, including the reference price of 4275.0 and the margin example for a 0.10-lot position, is illustrative. You must decide whether any trade suits your objectives, and you should seek advice from a licensed financial adviser if you are unsure. The site does not know your income, debts or tolerance for loss.
Soweto Follow is not a broker, dealer or investment manager. It does not execute orders, hold your money or open accounts. Any trading you do is with a third-party broker such as FxPro, and your legal relationship is with that broker, not with this site. The site does not provide signals, portfolio management or any service that would require an FSCA licence. It publishes educational material and links to brokers, and it earns a commission if you open an account through those links, as explained in the affiliate section.
All examples on the site use a reference gold price of 4275.0 and a standard lot size of 100 oz, with one pip equal to 0.01. These are teaching figures, not live quotes. Your actual fills, spreads and swaps will differ because they depend on the broker, the time of day and market conditions. The site does not promise that any example will match your account. Use the numbers to understand how margin and pip value work, then check your broker's own contract specifications before you trade.
Limits of Liability in Plain Words
Soweto Follow is not liable for trading losses incurred by anyone who reads this site. Gold trading with leverage can lose money faster than it can be earned, and a price move against a leveraged position can wipe out a deposit and, with some brokers, create a debt. By using this site you accept that you alone decide whether to trade, what size to trade and with which broker. The site supplies explanation; it does not supply outcomes, and it cannot be responsible for a position you chose to open.
Soweto Follow is not liable for errors, omissions or stale figures on the page. Prices quoted, such as the reference price of about 4275.0 for XAU/USD, are illustrative and will be wrong by the time you read them. Leverage caps, funding methods and platform availability can change without notice because the broker sets them. Where a number matters to a live decision, verify it on the broker's own platform or contract specifications before you act. Nothing here is a substitute for the broker's legal documents.
Soweto Follow is not liable for the conduct of any broker, payment provider or third-party website. Deposits by local card, bank transfer in ZAR or e-wallet travel through systems this site does not control, and delays, fees or reversals are handled under those providers' rules. Likewise, the entity that serves South African clients, FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL, is responsible for its own execution, pricing and client-money handling. Direct any account dispute to the broker and, where relevant, to the regulator that licensed the entity.
What Soweto Follow Is, and What It Is Not
Soweto Follow is an independent information site about trading, not a financial adviser or a broker. We publish explanations, worked examples and links to third-party platforms, but we do not tell you what to buy or sell, when to trade, or how much of your money to risk. Everything on the site is general information that ignores your personal circumstances, your existing portfolio, your tax position and your ability to absorb losses. If you need advice tailored to you, speak to a licensed financial adviser who is authorised to give it. We are not that adviser, and nothing you read here creates an advisory relationship between us.
Soweto Follow does not hold your money, execute your orders or open your trading account. Any trade you place happens on a third-party broker's platform, under that broker's terms, and with that broker as your counterparty. We have no access to your account, cannot see your positions and cannot close or modify them. When you click through to a broker, you leave our site and enter a separate commercial relationship that we do not control. The broker sets the spreads, commissions, swaps, margin requirements, leverage caps and funding methods that apply to you, and those are listed in the broker's own legal documents, not ours.
Soweto Follow is not a regulator, an ombudsman or a dispute-resolution body. We cannot investigate a broker, recover a loss, reverse a trade or force a platform to pay you. The entity that serves South African readers is FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL, and FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC, and an FxPro entity holds an FSCA licence in South Africa — check which entity your own account is opened with. If you have a complaint about a broker, it must go through that broker's complaints process and, where relevant, the regulator named in your account agreement. We are not a substitute for either.
